Many are drawn to Belmar because of its wide sandy beaches, but they come back because of all the little things this beach has to offer. For families with young children, there are beachside playgrounds every few blocks along the boardwalk. For fishing enthusiasts, there are charter and party fishing trips from the marina, plus many fisherman cast off from the shore along the inlet of the Shark River. For anyone looking to sit and relax, there are beach umbrellas and lounging chairs available for rent at the 8^th Avenue Beach. Workers will gladly set them up at a location of your choosing and return them for you at the end of the day. Each item rents for $5.

Recreation At The Beach

For wave junkies, there are designated beaches for boogie boarding, sea kayaking, and surfing. Not a surfer yet? Belmar is the place for you too. You just need to head down to the 3^rd Avenue Beach, which offers surfing lessons for anyone interested in catching a wave. And if you’re just interested in taking in the scenery, Belmar has you covered for that too. With a spacious beach and wide boardwalk, there is plenty of real estate for everyone, even on those busy summer weekends.

For The Family & Kids

Belmar’s beaches are truly a family friendly entertainment option. The playgrounds are built right on to the beach, so you can enjoy the sun and sand while your youngsters are pretending to be pirates on the playground equipment. With the playgrounds spaced out approximately every five blocks along the beach, you’ll always be near one. Families will also appreciate the public restrooms located all along the boardwalk. You will also find ramps starting at the boardwalk and going part of the way down to the water. These ramps are there to make it easier for anyone to access the beach and ocean water.

Cost, Schedule & Beach Badges

A badge is required for admission to the beach, but Belmar’s daily rates are lower than most others along the Jersey Shore, including the beaches directly north and south. It is a fee of $8 for 16 and older, but 15 and under are free. Badges are required from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting Memorial Day weekend. From Memorial Day until the third Monday of June, you only need a badge on the weekend. After that, badges are necessary every day until the end of Labor Day.

Badges for the entire season are available for $55 per person and $15 for senior citizens. Active members of the military and their families are always free through a program called Operation: Thank You. Beach Badges are available for purchase at booths up and down the boardwalk. When you come to the beach, parking is available right along the boardwalk for $2 per hour from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
